Verity Boak
Director and Registered Manager

Verity manages the daily operations of ILC and generally does a little bit of everything from ordering pens… to developing care pathways … to liaison with the Care Commission. 

She qualified as an Occupational Therapist over 20 years ago and as well as being co-founder of ILC, she has expanded her skills base and is a highly experienced care and rehabilitation expert.  Verity has set up the Channel Island’s only Case Management services and she takes great pride in her work supporting injured clients and their family members.

When she is not working, Verity can be found on the beach or planning the next family campervan holiday.

Joanna MacLachlan
Director and Care Manager

Joanna carried out her nurse training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, so is a true ‘Nightingale’.  Although no longer registered, she remains vastly experienced in helping those who need home care support. Her hand on approach is recognized by so many as being practical, reassuring and compassionate.  She understands the importance of having good communication between the clients, their families and all the ILC staff involved in the care and will always go that extra mile to try and ensure our clients are well cared for.

When away from the office, she enjoys walking the family dog, a sprocker called Nina, which itself has seemed to have developed a very Independent Living manner!

Neil MacLachlan MBE
Director

Neil and his wife Joanna decided to set up Independent Living in 2007.  From their experience of remotely looking after family members who lived in the UK, they wanted to establish a fully managed care service that could act as surrogate family members for local Islanders who needed that little extra help to stay safely at home, for as long as was reasonably possible, and to have regular contact that made them feel less lonely.

Having recently retired from Hospital work, as a founding co-director Neil is now more involved with ILC.  He is currently ensuring that all our policies and procedures are up to date and looking at exciting ways the Company can further develop.

His work in the Health Care and Charity sectors recently earned him an MBE, and whilst he enjoys his sailing and cycling, he laments the lack of awards in these areas!

Clare Warstat
Office Manager

Our office manager Clare is a real master of all tasks.  She carries out the scheduling of the community visits, manages the bookkeeping and deals with recruitment.  She is also great at IT and helps us all make sure we are set up with the latest technology. Yes she is a star, the glue that holds us together and generally a safe pair of hands.

Clare works between home and the office as she is also mum to three children – it’s a good job that she likes to stay busy!

Carers

We are biased of course but we think that we have the best team of carers.  Our team is small but together we are a powerful force in supporting older people in the community.  We have carers who are highly experienced from a ‘hands on’ perspective as well as carers whose strengths are companionship to support accessing the community and at times even making scones!

Our carers treat our clients as they would like their own family members to be helped. This is the ethos under which the company was founded.
